Family holidays in Schenna, near Meran

Made for
little and big adventurers

Every day brings something new to discover around Schenna. Follow peaceful Waalweg irrigation channel trails, take in the views on panoramic paths, enjoy gentle circular walks or head for the peaks on more demanding hikes. There is plenty for cyclists too, with beautiful routes winding through the countryside around Meran. And whenever you feel like a change of pace, Meran is just a short trip away. In winter, the Meran 2000 skiing area is practically on the doorstep, along with a host of charming Christmas and Advent markets.

What truly sets Gutshof Moser apart is its location in the upper part of St. Georgen: quiet and secluded, yet wonderfully well connected. Right from the farm, you can head towards the Schenna Waalweg trail or the Taser cable car.

Upon request and depending on the season, we are happy to accompany our guests on selected hikes.

Our favourite spots

The best walks, as far as we are concerned, start right outside our front door. The Schenna Waalweg irrigation channel trail is one of our absolute favourites – and also our tried-and-tested recipe for sending little Emma off to sleep. Within just a few minutes, you are walking beside the gently babbling water, with lovely views stretching across Meran.

Fancy heading higher into the mountains? Follow the Schenna Waalweg for around 2 km and you will reach the Taser cable car. Ride up to the mountain station and continue on towards the Ifingerhütte mountain hut, where a glorious summer’s day in the mountains – and perhaps some dumplings and Kaiserschmarrn – awaits.

Meran 2000 and the Hirzer hiking areas also offer beautiful family-friendly trails, both within easy reach and dotted with inviting mountain huts for a well-earned stop along the way. For even more family-friendly walks and outing ideas in Schenna, check out the “Schenna4family” app.

Hiking tips from Riwana and Florian

The mountains are our happy place

One of our favourite family outings starts with a ride on the nearby Taser cable car. From the top, follow the Taser panoramic trail as it gently climbs towards the Streitwalder Alm mountain hut. Homemade pasta or a South Tyrolean platter on the big sunny terrace afterwards? That is our idea of a perfect day in the mountains. Another favourite of ours is the walk to the Zmailerhof. Start straight from the farm, head towards the Schenna Waalweg irrigation channel trail and then follow the path uphill to the Zmailerhof farm. The views are magnificent, and the food is every bit as good – we promise!

And for anyone who cannot resist a summit, we recommend the Lauwandspitze peak in Schenna. Take the Taser cable car and hike for around two and a half hours to the top. Your reward is one of the most spectacular panoramas over the Meran countryside.

Discover the area on two wheels

There are countless ways to explore the countryside around Schenna by bike: leisurely routes along the Passer river towards the Passeiertal Valley, scenic rides on Schennaberg mountain or at Meran 2000, and more challenging trails for those who enjoy earning their views with a few metres of climbing.

Your bike can be stored safely in our garage, ready for you to head off on your next tour straight from the farm. Prefer to hire one? “Schenna Bike” is just 2 km away and has a wide range to choose from.

Fancy a change? Culture and city life in South Tyrol

The mountains may be hard to beat, but sometimes a cappuccino on the promenade and a wander through the old town are just as tempting. Meran is only a few minutes away, and Bozen, the provincial capital, makes another great day out.

Charming arcades, independent shops, historic lanes and a touch of Mediterranean lifestyle make the towns a refreshing change of scenery. Our tip: do not miss the Gardens of Trauttmansdorff Castle, just 5 km from Gutshof Moser.

Living traditions in Schenna

Old rural customs are still an important part of life in Schenna, and our family has always felt strongly connected to them. Whether it is Sacred Heart Sunday or one of the many events organised by local associations throughout the year, there is always an opportunity to experience local life and meet the people who make this place what it is.

If your stay happens to coincide with one of these occasions, you will discover a side of South Tyrol that is especially dear to us: welcoming, convivial and proud of its roots.

Winter walks and skiing

Winter brings a gentler pace to Schenna. Even during the colder season, you can enjoy sun-filled walks around our farm – usually without snow, but with magnificent views stretching across Meran.

The valley station of Meran 2000 is only 5 km from Gutshof Moser. High above the valley, this sunny plateau invites you to ski, toboggan or head out on a winter walk – ideally with a cosy stop at one of the mountain huts along the way.

For a little festive magic, visit the Advent and Christmas markets: Advent at Schenna Castle, the charming smaller markets in the villages around Meran and, naturally, the Meran Christmas Market.

There’s no place
like home

After a day spent exploring, it feels wonderful to come back, settle down by the pool, enjoy an aperitif and watch the evening sun linger a little longer. There are many beautiful places around us, but in our eyes, the best place of all is still Gutshof Moser. ;)
